A lonely End!

The final chapter of The Great Gatsby left me feeling alone.  It made me take a moment to look into myself a little and those around me.  Do I embrace those around me and let them know the importance of them in my life?  I like to think I do.  No, I do not want to imagine my funeral and do a head count of those who might come to give me a farewell prayer.  But in life while I'm still here, I want to know that I've touched loved ones, friends, co-workers and even strangers in some positive way.  Small things like holding a door open, giving some extra change to someone or even a simple "Good Morning" to someone passing you by says a lot about a person.  I know it gives me a good feeling inside when I greet a person on the street and they respond with smile.  This good feeling has more value than any material thing.

  1. I agree. Gatsby's funeral was a sad tragedy, much like his life.

I liked this post. I could see a glimpse of you, and what is valuable to you. I really like that you value people and relationships, and that your daily actions, the things that make you smile, follow this philosophy.

  2. I really enjoy reading the story The Great Gatsby! I feel there are a lot of different lessons in the story. Even though Gatsby was always polite and nice to others, only two people came to his funeral? So what does that mean. Does that mean that Gatsby was not as Great as people thought. Not particularly, it could just mean that the people he thought for his friends, really were not and just used him for his money. Like you, it really made me think about my life and what would happen if that was me in that passed on. Did I make an impact in this life, would people remember me for good things? But I feel as long as you are happy with your life and the people you surround yourself with, that is all that matters! Thank you for your blog post!

  3. I agree that it was definitely a lonely ending, but I enjoyed the book all the same. I really like your post. I try to always keep a positive attitude and a smile on my face hoping that it is contagious and those around me will catch one too! I work in the public so I always try to find opportunities to make someone's day a little but better. I work at a small store and the way an elderly person's face lights up when you remember their name is something that would leave anybody smiling. You cannot put a price tag on things like that! It is great to see that I am not the only one who strives to make people smile! I call it my magic bucket of smiles :) I strive to empty my bucket by giving smiles away but it always fills back up! Great post!
